SUBJECT ASSOCIATION

Introduction:
The Subject Association event at Valiyam Memorial B.Ed College focused on the practice and
significance of journal writing in the context of English teaching. The session aimed at
encouraging student teachers to develop the habit of reflective writing, enhancing both their
teaching skills and their understanding of literary concepts. Journal writing was presented as
a key tool for personal growth, professional reflection, and improvement in teaching
methodologies
Objective:
The objective of the session was to highlight the importance of reflective and creative
journal writing for aspiring English teachers. Participants were encouraged to use journaling
to document their thoughts, reflect on classroom experiences, analyze lesson effectiveness,
and refine their teaching strategies.
Session Overview:
Introduction to Journal Writing: The session began with an introduction to the concept of
journal writing and its significance in teaching practice. It was emphasized that writing
journals not only helps in reflection but also assists in personalizing one’s approach to
teaching and learning.
Reflective Journaling in Teaching: Participants were guided on how to structure reflective
journal entries, focusing on their daily teaching experiences, challenges faced, and insights
gained from teaching English. This approach aids in identifying strengths and areas for
improvement.
Practical Activity: The session included an activity where participants wrote brief reflective
journal entries based on their experiences teaching English. They were encouraged to think
about specific lessons they had taught, the students' responses, and any adjustments they
would make for future classes.
Discussion and Feedback:
The participants shared their thoughts on the journaling process and discussed how it has
impacted their teaching. Some shared that journaling helped them better understand their
students’ learning processes and provided a way to evaluate and refine their own methods.
There was a consensus that journaling not only improved their teaching but also offered
emotional clarity and stress relief.
Conclusion:
The Subject Association session on journal writing was a highly productive and enriching
experience. It equipped student teachers with practical skills to use journal writing as a tool
for ongoing professional development. The session successfully highlighted how reflective
writing can enhance teaching effectiveness and deepen one's understanding of the English
subject.

1 phase Bi-Weekly Report (9&10 week)

WEEK 9 AND WEEK 10 As my teaching practice reached its final two weeks, I focused on refining my teaching skills and ensuring a meaningful learning experience for my students. By this stage, I had developed a strong rapport with them, which made classroom interactions more engaging and productive. I continued using interactive teaching methods, including discussions, group activities, and real-life applications, to enhance their understanding of concepts. During these weeks, I also concentrated on revision sessions to help students reinforce their learning before their upcoming assessments. I provided additional support to students who needed extra guidance, ensuring they felt confident in their studies. Classroom management had significantly improved, and students were more disciplined and cooperative. As my teaching practice came to an end, I took time to reflect on my journey, the challenges I overcame, and the valuable lessons I learned. The farewell from students and staff wa...
